Jakarta (VNA) – 🐻ASEAN announced the awarding of ASEAN Prize 2021 to Mekong Instituteat the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits, for its contributions in promoting ASEANawareness and strengthening regional cooperation towards sustainabledevelopment.
The role ofASEAN Prize in promoting public awareness on the core values and principles ofASEAN based on the ASEAN Charter was recognised by the ASEAN Leaders at the38th and 39th ASEAN Summit.
In theChairman’s Statement, the Leaders congratulated the Mekong Institute asrecipient of the ASEAN Prize 2021, recognising its work in promoting aprosperous and harmonious sub-regional development, and contribution to a widerregional cooperation and integration, particularly in agricultural developmentand commercialisation.
🎀 In hiscongratulatory remarks, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoiacknowledged the Mekong Institute’s aspiration in fostering sustainabledevelopment and how they have created a pivotal strength and driving force forregional economic growth.
Theinstitute’s key role in community development and capacity building,publication as well as research and training programmes have helped bridge thegap in the region, accelerating equitable growth towards an inclusive, cohesiveand prosperous ASEAN Community, he said. SuriyanVichitlekarn, Mekong Institute Executive Director, stated that the Prize wasreceived with great honour on behalf of those who have tirelessly advanced GMSdevelopment and cooperation for a stronger ASEAN. He addedthat the recognition strengthens Mekong Institute’s resolve to work even harderin empowering people, bridging partnerships, and advocating positive change,particularly during these uncertain times. The ASEANPrize is an annual regional premier award, administered by the ASEANSecretariat, honouring individuals or organisations based in ASEAN that havedemonstrated outstanding work with significant contribution to communitybuilding efforts. Therecipient will receive a trophy and a cash prize of 20,000 USD sponsored byTemasek Foundation of Singapore and Yayasan Hasanah of Malaysia./.
