Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand's Deputy Government Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak has said the overseas trips being undertaken by 13 members of the Wild Boar Academy football team are not for business purposes.

The Deputy Government spokesperson said the boys and their coach were invited to attend overseas events as a sports and cultural exchange. They will be attending the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina from October 4 to 9. Their tickets and living expenses are being paid for by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC believes that their presence at the ceremony would motivate and teach youngsters about teamwork as well as physical and mental strength which helped them get through their ordeal inside a flooded cave.

Phayao Governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn will also travel to the United States to receive an Asia Game Changer award from the Asia Society Association for his leadership in overseeing the rescue mission in Chiang Rai. His airline ticket is being paid for by the organisation.

The boys and their coach are also scheduled to visit Los Angeles to share their football experiences and Thai culture with young American football players.-NNT/VNA
