Metal-age tomb complex uncovered in Tuyen Quang province

The Vietnam Archaeology Institute and the Tuyen Quang Museum have discovered a metal-age tomb complex in Na Tham cave in Na Hang district’s Thanh Tuong commune, northern mountainous Tuyen Quang province.
Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Archaeology Institute and the Tuyen Quang Museum havediscovered a metal-age tomb complex in Na Tham cave in Na Hang district’s ThanhTuong commune, northern mountainous Tuyen Quang province.

Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Nang Chung, headof the archaeologist team, said they unearthed a cultural layer at a depth of0.3 meters below the cave surface.

The only cultural layer is about 0.4 meters thickand has a rather soft texture formed by clay in a dark grey cave, he added.

The archaeologists also uncovered dozens ofarchaeological relics, mainly pottery and stone items, bones and human teeth. Mostof the pottery pieces were decorated with patterns.

This is the first time a metal-age tomb complex hasbeen found in Tuyen Quang province, which is believed to date back to nearly3,000 years ago.

The province is building a plan to excavate thecave in the coming time.-VNA
