Hanoi (VNA)🤡 - A series of critical transport projects are now in the final stages of construction, with efforts ramped up to meet the set deadlines. Additionally, newly approved projects are being expedited for investment approval and early groundbreaking, ensuring the efficient disbursement of public investment funds from the beginning of the year.

According to Le Quyet Tien, Director of the Department of Construction Investment Management, the country is aiming for a total of 3,000km of expressways. In 2025 alone, approximately 1,188km of expressways, spanning 28 projects or project components, are expected to be completed. Among 17 projects (totaling 889km) overseen by the Ministry of Transport, 13 projects (745km) are progressing as planned, with minimal remaining obstacles. However, four projects (144km) have yet to meet their required progress and require urgent resolution of key challenges.
For instance, the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway sections (111km) need the My Thuan Project Management Board to work closely with localities to ensure sufficient sand supply, adjust design solutions, and shorten settlement waiting times. Similarly, the 11.5km Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan Expressway requires the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board to coordinate with local authorities to complete land clearance and secure stone supplies by February 2025. Meanwhile, for the 18km Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway (Phase 2), the Project Management Board 85 must closely collaborate with local agencies to finalize land clearance and ensure a steady supply of construction stone, particularly by working with relevant authorities in Dong Nai province.

In the railway sector, the Ministry of Transport is preparing investment plans for eight railway projects, including the North-South High-Speed Railway, the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho Railway and the Eastern Ring Railway in Hanoi.
Among these, only the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway is scheduled to break ground in 2025. At Long Thanh International Airport, key construction components are progressing according to schedule. In Package 2 (air traffic control facilities), the reinforced concrete structure of the air traffic control tower has been completed, and steel structures are now being installed. In Package 3 (essential airport facilities), the passenger terminal’s concrete structure is finished, with roof framework installation underway. Other major components, including runways, taxiways, and two connecting roads, are also being accelerated, with an overall target to achieve substantial completion by December 31, 2025. At a progress review meeting on February 3, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh expressed confidence in the completion of expressway sections from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri central province. However, he raised concerns about projects in the South-Central and Mekong Delta regions, particularly the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway and other east-west highways. Minister Minh emphasized the need for sand embankments in the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway. Given the limited sand supply and time constraints, he urged authorities and research institutes to explore alternative construction methods that accelerate settlement while ensuring technical standards. He also stressed that quality management, labor safety, and environmental protection must not be compromised for the sake of progress.
