- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and President of the House of Councilors of Japan Sekiguchi Masakazu held talks in Tokyo on December 5 as part of the former's official visit to Japan.
During the talks, Man congratulated Sekiguchi on his election as President of the House of Councilors of Japan. He said Vietnam regards Japan as a leading and long-term partner and the bilateral relationship is at its best with strong political trust and close, comprehensive ties at all levels. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and President and CEO of NVIDIA Jensen Huang went for a tour around Hanoi on December 5 night to explore the life, culture and tourism in the capital city.
Visiting Ngoc Son Temple and contemplating Hoan Kiem Lake, PM Chinh and Huang listened to a tour guide introduce the history of the Pen Tower, Ink Slab, The Huc Bridge, and Ngoc Son Temple, especially about the legend of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hoan Kiem Lake turtles. - A plan to rearrange and streamline the Government's organisational apparatus was finalised on December 5, with eight ministries and ministerial-level agencies to be maintained (with internal changes only), and 14 others to be restructured, rearranged and merged.
Specifically, the eight ministries and ministerial-level agencies to be maintained are the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Government Office, the Government Inspectorate, and the State Bank of Vietnam. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 5 signed to issue an official dispatch regarding the aftermath of an incident during a military exercise in Military Region 7 in Xuan Tam commune, Xuan Loc district, the southern province of Dong Nai.

- US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on December 5 announced a new 12.5 million USD foreign assistance package to Vietnam, during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien at the Department of Fisheries Surveillance (DFIRES) Training Facility, Region 5 in Phu Quoc city, the southern province of Kien Giang.
Made possible by the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the assistance package will support Vietnam in strengthening maritime law enforcement and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Read full story
- The cross-border e-commerce platform Temu has suspended its operations in Vietnam as per requests from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
The ministry’s Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said it has asked Temu’s owner – Elementary Innovation Pte Ltd – to perform a number of measures to comply with Vietnam’s regulations on e-commerce. The requests were made based on trade regulations that are specified in the Governmment’s Decree 52/2013/ND-CP and Decree 85/2021/ND-CP./. Read full story
