- The 15th National Assembly (NA) on June 6 elected via secret ballots Nguyen Thi Thanh as NA Vice Chairwoman and approved the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Le Thanh Long as Deputy Prime Minister and Luong Tam Quang as Minister of Public Security, all for the 2021-2026 term, during its on-going seventh plenary session.

Specifically, Thanh received 465 "yes" votes from 467 deputies participating in the voting. One deputy voted against and one did not vote. Read full story

- President To Lam on June 6 chaired a ceremony to announce and present appointment decisions to the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security for the 2021 – 2026 tenure.

The Government leader said the US is an important strategic partner of Vietnam, particularly in economy and trade. The US is currently Vietnam's largest export market, and bilateral trade has surpassed 100 billion USD for two consecutive years. - Vietnam is deeply concerned about and resolutely opposes the illegal survey operations conducted by vessel Hai Yang 26 of China in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf as established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on June 6.

The spokesperson made the statement in response to reporters' questions regarding the illegal survey conducted by the vessel of the Chinese Navy in Vietnamese waters at the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi. Read full story

- Though the 2023 EU Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World reflected some achievements and progress Vietnam has made in protecting human rights, it continued to put forth a number of unobjective comments, Spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on June 6.

- A Vietnamese female student named Nguyen Bich Ngoc in France who was reported to go missing since January 2024 has been confirmed dead by French authorities, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Pham Thu Hang said on June 6.

At the ministry's regular press conference, the spokesperson said as soon as receiving information that Ngoc had not contacted her family since January, the Vietnamese Embassy in France notified the French police to search for her and coordinated with Vietnamese representative agencies in neighbouring countries to closely follow the incident.
