The Myanmar Government and ethnic armed groups agreed on seven points of a ceasefire agreement at the ninth Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM) held in the capital Nay Pyi Taw on August 13.

Hanoi (VNA) – The MyanmarGovernment and ethnic armed groups agreed on seven points of a ceasefire agreementat the ninth Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM) held in the capitalNay Pyi Taw on August 13.
Accordingto local medica, the Myanmar Government and ethnic armed organisations agreedon the point related to ceasefire and how separate and collective discussionsshould be carried out for chapters 3 and 4 of the Nationwide CeasefireAgreement (NCA).
They also agreed to sign the three parts including framework agreement on theNCA implementation, plans for post-2020 and basic federal principles into theunion accord.
Thestakeholders also agreed to hold the Union Peace Conference from August 19 to21, with 230 representatives in attendance as well as to encourage thenon-signatories to sign the NCA.
Atthe meeting, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, in her capacity as chair ofNational Reconciliation and Peace Centre, said that it will take time fordemocratic reform and establishment of a federal union, while the country isworking for national reconciliation and peace simultaneously.
The21st Century Panglong Peace Conference was held in August 2016, May 2017 andJuly 2018, respectively.
Sofar, 10 ethnic armed groups have signed the NCA with the Government since itwas initiated in October 2015./.
