Myanmar inks 33 agreements with ethnic armed groups

Hanoi (VNA) –The Government of Myanmar and ethnic armed groups signed a total of 33agreements after the second meeting of the 21st Century PanglongPeace Conference was wrapped up in May 29.

Lieut. General YarPyae, vice chairman of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC),described the peace talks as very productive.

“We are very pleasedbecause we have never had results in previous talks. We have agreed on 37points, which is a progress,” he said.

State Counsellor AungSan Suu Kyi urged the participants to make more steps in future talks.

Differences inperspectives of the parties to the peace dialogues were exposed during theconference, she said, admitting that finding a common voice would not be easy.

Parties to the talkhave taken another step along the path of pursuing peace at the conference. Theconclusion of this meeting marks a beginning of their next step towards apeaceful democratic federal union, she noted.

Regarding politicalissues, the parties agreed on 12 points but left eight others for discussion atthe next conference slated for the end of this year.-VNA
