Hanoi (VNA) 🍬– Myanmar’s ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party said it may not put an amendment to the constitution to a vote in parliament but hold a referendum for a new amendment.

According to the NLD legal department, party leaders said that it would be useless to amend the current constitution as the military has a veto in parliament.
President Htin Kyaw and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi have stressed that constitutional reform is the NLD’s top priority.
In her New Year greetings delivered in mid-April, Aung San Suu Kyi underscored the need for a constitution that will create a federal democratic nation while saying that the NLD would amend the constitution in a way which would not adversely affect the people or national peace. In 2014, the NLD gathered 5 million signatures on a petition asking parliament to change some articles in the constitution.-VNA
