Hanoi (VNA)𓂃 – The National Assembly Standing Committee listened to and gave feedback on reports on crime prevention and law enforcement during its third working session in Hanoi on September 21.

The government reported that from October 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016, crime reduced generally, but murder and drug trafficking cases increased and cyber security and safety faced threats. Law violations were found rampant in transport safety, fire prevention, taxation, the environment, construction, insurance, food safety, customs, land, export-import and mineral resources. The cabinet blamed the issue to the loose leadership and management of the State in some sectors, deficiency in law popularisation, and moral degradation in youngsters. The NA’s Law Committee basically agreed with the government’s report, saying that amid complicated developments in the region and the world so far this year, the Government, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy have adopted synchronous measures to fulfill tasks assigned by the legislature regarding the prevention and control of crimes and law violations, investigation and prosecution. The Committee pointed out issues that caught public concerns, including an environment pollution incident in the four central coastal provinces, unhygienic food and counterfeits, which are at an alarming level, and corruption, which remains rampant in many sectors at different levels. It also admitted weaknesses in inspection and investigation, particularly in the fields of mineral resources, the environment, finance-banking, information technology, food hygiene and safety. It suggested the government should screen economic projects prone to cause environment pollution and be cautious in approving similar ones, as well as launch a general examination on administrative sanctions nationwide, it said. The committee also urged the government to completely deal with prolonged cases and the enforcement of judgments in credit and banking.-VNA
