Hanoi (VNA) - Communication efforts in the fight against child abuse must capitalise on social network platforms and information technology to have a greater effect, National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty said on April 27.

He made the comments during the ongoing 44th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) in Hanoi which discussed a report on the implementation of policies for preventing the social evil.

The role of relevant and local agencies in this key task needs to be further evaluated, he added.

Efforts have been made in child protection and education over time, the report noted.

However, some 8,442 cases of child abuse were reported nationwide from 2015 to June 2019, of which 75.4 percent were sexual.

More than 790,500 children were forced into labour, about 156,930 others abandoned, and 13,490 victimised in child marriage, the report added./.
