According to the latest assessment, three districts – Xuan Truong, Truc Ninh, and Nghia Hung – have successfully wiped out substandard housing. The remaining six districts and city have approved a list of 292 poor and near-poor households still living in temporary or dilapidated housing that require support. Of these, 140 households need new construction and 152 require renovations.

Nam Dinh aims to complete eradicating the 292 substandard houses by July 1. The estimated budget for this programme is approximately 13 billion VND (nearly 509,000 USD).

Besides, 1,573 families of revolution contributors with housing-related difficulties are also entitled to assistance under the Prime Minister's Decision No. 21/2024/QD-TTg. Financial aid is expected to stand at some 62 billion VND, sourced from the central budget.

At the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Pham Dinh Nghi, also deputy head of the steering committee's standing board, praised efforts from sectors and localities in implementing the programme. He asked relevant agencies to make sure the work is completed well to achieve the set target.

He demanded enhancing communications campaign to raise public awareness of the significance of the programme, encouraging the engagement of individuals and organisations.

Competent departments must continue compiling lists, allocating funding for localities, and issuing guidelines for managing and using support funds, he added.

Over the recent past, the local administration has enthusiastically responded to the drive pooling public strength to eradicate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by the end of 2025. Party members, civil servants, public employees, and businesses have been mobilised to contribute to the “For the Poor” fund. In the meantime, the ▨identification of those in need and budget allocation have been effectively implemented./.
