Nation takes care of the disadvantaged as Tet approaches

Authorities and labour federations at all levels are busy distributing gifts to the disadvantaged in order to help them celebrate the year’s most important traditional festival – the Lunar New Year (Tet) – in comfort and happiness.

February 2 (VNA) – Authorities andlabour federations at all levels are busy distributing gifts to thedisadvantaged in order to help them celebrate the year’s most importanttraditional festival – the Lunar New Year (Tet) – in comfort and happiness.

Minister of Planning andInvestment Nguyen Chi Dung on February 1 visited the areas seriously affectedby floods and landslides last October in Da Bac district, the northern provinceof Hoa Binh, where he presented warm blankets, water filters and cash toschools in Hien Luong commune. He also presented 300 million VND raised by hisministry’s trade union to Hoa Binh province’s Fund for the Poor to distributeto local needy people.

The day before, the minister broughtgifts to residents in landslide-prone areas in Phuc San commune, Hoa Binh’s MaiChau district.

Also on February 1, the LabourFederation of the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien organized a Tetprogramme for local workers. On the occasion, the federation distributed 160gifts, each worth 700,000 VND to needy trade union members.  

The same day, Labour Federationof the northern province of Ninh Binh hosted a similar programme and presented70 gifts for workers in specially disadvantaged circumstances. The province’syouth union also gave out 35 gifts.

In the central province of QuangNam, more than 2,200 households will have electricity before Tet, which willfall on February 16.

The central city of Da Nang hasallocated 44.5 billion VND (1.97 million USD) to buy Tet gifts for beneficiariesof State preferential policies and poor labourers.-VNA

The court announced that Quyet had submitted a written request to be tried in absentia, citing serious health issues.
