National Assembly to elect new State President in October: Official

The National Assembly will elect new State President at its session in October, General Secretary of the NA and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong said on August 26.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly will elect new State President at its session in October, General Secretary of the NA and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong said on August 26.

At the press conference announcing the results of the 8th extraordinary session of the 15th NA on the same day, Cuong said the election will be made in line with the Party Central Committee’s resolution.

Regarding the freshly-appointed officials, including three Deputy Prime Ministers, and two Ministers for the 2021-2026 term, Cuong stated they all have great credibility.

Deputy PM Ho Duc Phoc will continue serving as the Minister of Finance until the NA approves the appointment of a new one. Meanwhile, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son will simultaneously hold the post of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Responding to the press’s queries on the personnel work, Chairwoman of the NA’s Committee for Deputy Affairs Nguyen Thanh Hai said the Party Central Committee plans to focus on consolidating the positions of senior leadership, and those of the party committees and administrations at all levels until the end of this year.

The move aims at enhancing the Party’s leadership over the development of the economy, culture, defence-security, and foreign affairs, and preparing for Party congresses at all levels towards to the 14th National Party Congress, she said.

Hai added that the personnel consolidation also helps ensure a complete political system that operates more strongly and effectively, creating favourable conditions for socio-economic development, improving local livelihoods, and strengthening the ties with the people, and consolidating their confidence in the Party and State.

The appointment of the three Deputy PMs and two Ministers is part of the efforts to formalise the government positions toward the target, she stressed.

With all the 432 deputies present voting yes (accounting for 89.81% of the total NA members), the freshly approved Deputy Prime Ministers for the 2021-2026 term include Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee; Ho Duc Phoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance’s Party Civil Affairs Committee, and Minister of Finance; and Bui Thanh Son, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Government's Party Civil Affairs Committee, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Party Civil Affairs Committee, and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, with all the 426 deꦉputies present voting in favour,🐻 Do Duc Duy, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Yen Bai provincial Party Committee, and head of the northern province’s delegation of deputies to the 15th NA, was approved as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. Nguyen Hai Ninh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Khanh Hoaprovincial Party Committee was also approved for the position of Minister of Justice./.
