Nha Trang releases fries to regenerate aquatic resources

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – The People’s Committee of NhaTrang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa on May 12 released 600,000aquatic breeds on Nha Trang Bay.

Designed to promote the protection and conservation ofaquatic resources, the move formed part of nearly 60 activities within theframework of the 2019 National Tourism Year and the 9th NhaTrang-Khanh Hoa Sea Festival.

The released breeds included 450,000 shrimp fries, and 9,300fish fries and 100,000 mollusk.

Nha Trang Bay spans some 507 km2 with 19 islands and adiverse marine ecosystem of coral reefs, mangrove forests, and beaches, amongothers. However, in recent year, rapid socio-economic development coupled withoverexploitation at sea have badly impacted such diversity.

In a related move, the Khanh Hoa Salangane Nests Companywill release 15,000 silver pomfret and Asian sea bass fish fries acrossdifferent spots in the province on May 13.-VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensingജ to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycli🎃ng, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
