Ninh Binh (VNA) – A bear sanctuary in Nho Quan district, thenorthern province of Ninh Binh has become an attractive destination fortourists, especially foreigners.

Since it was operational in March 2019, thesanctuary welcomed 2,500 visitors, including 2,000 internationalholiday-makers.

The centre has a total area of 10ha, ableto accommodate about 100 bears in a suitable semi-natural habitat.

It has cared for a total of 29 bears which usedto be kept in captivity and illegally traded to harvest their bile.

The sanctuary has also organised activitiesto help raise public awareness of bio-diversity conservation and environmentalprotection.

This facility is expected to contribute toimproving animal welfare, especially for bears, and providing a safesemi-natural habitat for them to recover their natural behaviours, thus helpingto end bear farming for bile and protect bears in the wild./.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing t❀o monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
