Northern region experiences torrential rains from August 25
Due to impacts of storm Ma-on, the third entering the East Sea so far this year, heavy rains at 100-200mm and even 250mm have poured onto the northern region from August 25, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Hanoi (VNA) – Due to impacts of storm Ma-on, thethird entering the East Sea so far this year, heavy rains at 100-200mm andeven 250mm have poured onto the northern region from August 25, according to the NationalCentre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Torrential rains are forecast to last for more than one dayand peak on August 25 night, causing a high risk of flash floods, landslides andflooding in low areas and northern mountainous provinces.
At sea, the northern part of the East Sea has seen strongwinds of up to level 9 and even level 11 in the area near the storm eye,causing high waves.

In the northern area of the Gulf of Tonkin, including BachLong Vy and Co To island districts of the northeastern province of Quang Ninh, thestorm has also caused high waves.
As of early morning of August 25, the storm was about 290kmeast from Leizhou peninsula of China, boasting winds at level 11 (103-117km perhour).
According to Tran Quang Nang, an expert from the NationalCentre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, after making a landfall in China's southern localities and heading to the northeastern region of Vietnam, the storm willweaken into a low pressure while reaching Quang Ninh province and become a lowpressure area in the next 24 hours./.
The East Sea is likely to record the third storm this year after a tropical depression in the east of the Philippines’ Luzon Island strengthens and moves in the next one or two days, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Storm Ma-on is predicted to enter the East Sea and continue intensifying in the next 24 - 48 hours, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
