Hanoi (VNA) – Numerous activities will be held for overseas Vietnamese to honour and promote Vietnamese language on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day (September 2), the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a press briefing on August 6.

The activities include a Vietnamese language teaching training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers from August 13 to 28 in Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and Thai Nguyen. The course will host 80 trainees from 15 countries and territories, with lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and experts from the Vietnam Education Publishing House.

Nguyen Trung Kien, head of the committee, said the training aims to enhance teaching quality, professional knowledge, and pedagogical skills through a curriculum tailored to overseas Vietnamese communities. Supplementary activities will focus on educating trainees about Vietnam’s history, culture, and up-to-date language knowledge based on domestic curricula.

The course emphasises teaching skills, including curriculum design, activity organisation, and assessments, integrating Vietnamese history and culture. Trainees will observe classes at Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School in Hanoi.

Since 2013, the Committee has collaborated with the Ministry of Education and Training to organise 12 such training courses for over 890 overseas Vietnamese teachers.

Kien also announced that the Award Ceremony for the Vietnamese Language Ambassador Contest abroad will be held on August 21 in Hanoi, combined with a gala night to honour Vietnamese language.

The contest, running since March 29, attracted over 50 high-quality entries showcasing deep love for Vietnamese and pride in the homeland. Submissions ranged from prose and poetry to creative multimedia, many linked with community activities promoting the language globally. Five outstanding authors will be selected as the Vietnamese Language Ambassadors for 2025.

The ambassadors will serve as cultural bridges, exemplifying the use, preservation, and promotion of Vietnamese overseas. They inspire younger generations through community activities and represent Vietnam internationally as teachers, researchers, and journalists.

𒁃 Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of the Vietnamese Language Day among the overseas Vietnamese community 2025 will be held on August 14 in Hanoi, both in person and online. The event will review achievements from the 2024–2025 activities and outline future plans./.
