Hanoi (VNA) - Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission forExternal Relations Le Hoai Trung has highlighted the need to ensure the Party’sleadership in diplomatic work and the importance of combination of Party, State and people-to-people diplomacy.
Trung granted an interview to the Vietnam News Agency on thethreshold of a national foreign affairs conference on slated for December 14 inHanoi.
This is the first time the national foreign affairs conference hasbeen held, Trung stated, adding that it is ofsignificance to realise the 13th National Party Congress’sResolution and assess the achievements gained in the past 35 years of renewing thecountry’s foreign affairs, look back on experience lessons, and identifyingarising issues.
Regarding Vietnam's foreign policy of independence andself-reliance for peace, friendship, cooperation and development,multilateralisation, diversification and comprehensive internationalintegration, Trung emphasised that the country has achieved many positiveresults in its extensive international integration process.
By maintaining an environment of peace, Vietnam has takenadvantage of favourable conditions for socio-economic and cultural development,and handled challenges, including traditional and non-traditional securitychallenges.
Regarding Party diplomacy in the 2021-2026 tenure, Trung stated that Vietnamadvocates expanding the Party's external relations, firstly with neighbouringcountries to create a political foundation and orientation for relations in allaspects, as well as with other political parties,ruling parties and those participating in political life in countries, togain political support for State relations and people-to-peoplediplomacy.
According to Trung, the national foreign affairs conference thistime will set out specific orientations, directions and strategies foragencies, ministries and branches in this field, and discuss measures topromote the effectiveness of coordination between agencies and localities, andbetween Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy./.
