Over 5 trillion VND proposed for disaster-hit regions
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has proposed the Prime Minister earmark over 5 trillion VND (208.3 million USD) to support 30 provinces affected by disasters and help relocate households in disaster-prone areas, heard a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai in Hanoi on October 23.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Steering Committee for NaturalDisaster Prevention and Control has proposed the Prime Minister e🐠armark over 5trillion VND (208.3 million USD) to support 30 provinces affected by disasters and help relocatehouseholds in disaster-prone areas, heard a mꦕeeting chaired by Deputy PrimeMinister Le Minh Khai in Hanoi on October23.
Themeeting aimed to discussthe allocation of funding from the State reserve fund to provide urgent supportfor projects hit by landslides and disasters in the northern, central andCentral Highlands regions.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment Nguyen Hoang Hiep sa🔯id since the beginning of this year, heavyrains, floods, landslides, and coastal erosion have left 149 people dead andmissing and 118 others injured. The natural calamities have also collapsed 888 houses, blown the roofs off 14,278others, inundated over 147,000ha of rice and vegetables, and broken down morethan 100km of embankments.
Thetotal damage is estimated at over 6.8 trillion VND, excludinglosses due to floods in the central region. The total funding allocated by the Government is 6 trillion VND, and theremaining nearly 1 trillion VND will be kept in reserve for the rest of thisyear, as natural disasters are expected to remain complex and unpredictable,Hiep said./.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in coordination with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and related partners, held a ceremony in response to the International Day for Disaster Reduction and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management at Bai Chay Primary and Secondary School in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long city on October 13.
A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Minister Le Minh Hoan, had a working trip on October 15 and 16 to the south-central coastal province of Phu Yen to inspect the local prevention of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and disasters.
