Oxfam helps Tien Giang adapt to climate change

Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta has been selected as one of the localities to implement an Oxfam-funded project to help coastal communities adapt to climate change.
Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta has been selected as one of thelocalities to implement an Oxfam-funded project to help coastalcommunities adapt to climate change. The projectaims to support the most vulnerable people in society, especially womenliving in coastal regions exposed to climate change and naturaldisasters.
Ten communes in Go Cong Tay and Tan PhuDong districts will benefit. Poor families, fish farmers and householdswith people that have disabilities will be targeted. The 3 million AUD (3.15 million USD) Oxfam initiative began in August2012, and will continue to the end of next year. The project isunderway in two Mekong Delta provinces and three provinces in the RedRiver Delta, and has helped 51,000 vulnerable people, mostly women,access climate change information. Another 11,000 have been assisted intheir livelihood. The outcomes of the project will support policy makers and minimise risks to the province and country. -VNA
