Hanoi (VNA) –
A painting contestaiming to raise public awareness of the dangers of smoking was launched inHanoi on March 10.

It is also designed to disseminate the law onprevention and control of tobacco harms.

The contest was jointly organised by the fundfor prevention and control of tobacco harms of the Health Ministry and theVietnam Fine Arts Association.

According to the fund, Vietnam records about40,000 tobacco-related deaths each year, a figure forecast to increase to70,000 by 2030.

Associate Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, director ofthe fund, said the contest aims to raise public awareness of the harms ofactive and passive smoking as well as the law on prevention and control oftobacco harms.

The contest is open for professional and amateurartists, Vietnamese citizens and overseas Vietnamese. 

There will be one first prize worth 15 millionVND (650 USD), two second prizes each worth 13 million VND, three third prizeseach worth 12 million VND and seven consolation prizes each worth 8 millionVND.

The deadline for submission is May 4, 2019. Theaward ceremony is scheduled to be held in June the same year.
