Party chief expresses gratitude to millions of ex-revolutionaries, war heroes

Over the past five years, the entire army, in collaboration with military-run enterprises, has built and renovated over 43,400 “gratitude houses”, eliminated 9,800 temporary homes for policy beneficiaries, revolution contributors, and poor households at a cost of total 2.43 trillion VND (92.77 million USD), and distributed more than 1,100 savings books worth 6.2 billion VND to families in need.

Hanoi (VNA) ꦓ– Party General Secretary To Lam expressed gratitude to the boundless sacrifices of millions of revolutionary soldiers, heroic martyrs and people, including ex-revolutionaries, heroic Vietnamese mothers, generals, high-ranking military officers, war veterans and Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces while speaking at a gathering in Hanoi on July 31.

The meeting took place ahead of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - 2025). General Secretary Lam shared updates on Vietnam’s recent strides and outlined key orientations moving forward, particularly the progress of implementing the 13th National Party Congress’s resolution and preparations for the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026. Since the 10th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee in September 2024, the committee has tackled an enormous workload to realise the goals set forth by the 13th National Party Congress, particularly in fulfilling the socio-economic development targets for the 2020–2025 term. One of the notable ongoing efforts is the intensified campaign against corruption, wastefulness, and negative phenomena, which continues to be pursued vigorously at both central and provincial levels. Looking ahead to the 14th National Party Congress, the General Secretary noted that the draft documents will be widely circulated for feedback from Party organisations, Party members, and the public in August.
He highlighted Vietnam’s economic resilience, crediting a combination of proactive, flexible, timely, and effective monetary policies with expansionary and targeted fiscal measures that have balanced inflation control with growth and stabilised interest and exchange rates The Party leader also underscored tuition exemption for students from preschool through high school starting this 2025-2026 academic year, plans to establish multi-level boarding schools in 248 border communes, and expanded health insurance support for the people, which have earned widespread public support. On the law-building programme, the Government had submitted 50 draft laws and resolutions to the National Assembly for consideration and approval. The Government issued 119 decrees and 15 legal documents to untangle procedural bottlenecks, creating a more dynamic development space for the national economy. A new two-tier local administration model, launched a month ago, is already streamlining public services, General Secretary Lam noted, signaling a shift toward more responsive administration.
National defence remains a priority, with the entire army fulfilling all 15 task groups set by the 11th Congress of the Party Organisation, he said, attributing these gains to tight coordination within the Party’s leadership and grassroots efforts, bolstered by public support, particularly from veterans and ex-revolutionaries.

He hoped that high-ranking military officers, generals, and war veterans, with their experience and passion, would continue contributing to the glorious cause of the Party, the people, and the nation in whatever role they play. Having experienced resistance wars, Vietnam has seen over 1.2 million martyrs and 9.2 million individuals recognised for their contributions and their family members. The Party and State have issued support policies, allocating more resources for education, healthcare, and rehabilitation, especially for wounded soldiers, veterans, and Agent Orange/dioxin victims cared for at national nursing centres.
As many as 2,879 heroic Vietnamese mothers are being cared for by military units and local authorities, while 702 children of martyrs and wounded soldiers are receiving sponsorship and support. Since 2013, the remains of over 21,000 war martyrs have been identified and repatriated./.
