Party, State leaders donate money to help flood victims

Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran DaiQuang and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan have joined thefund-raising campaign to support flood victims in northern mountainous andcentral localities. 

OnOctober 13, the Party Central Committee’s Office raised over 400 million VND (17,606USD), after staff at the office each donated at least one-day salary to thefund.

Thesame day, the Presidential Office, the National Assembly Office and the PartyCentral Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission also raised funds to support peoplein flood-hit areas.

Northernmountainous provinces and part of the central region have been submerged bywidespread floods resulting from torrential rains on October 10 and 11.

Widespreadfloods killed 54 people, left 37 missing and 31 injured as of 22:00 pm onOctober 12, according to the Central Steering Committee for Natural DisasterPrevention and Control.

On October 12, the VietnamRed Cross Society launched a “texting” campaign “Vi dong bao vung lu” (Forflood victims) calling people from across the country to make donations viatexts. By texting UH to 1409, the sender will contribute 20,000 VND.

All money collected from the campaign, runningthrough November 7, will be used to support affected people with necessities,housing and livelihoods, helping them overcome difficulties.

By late October 12, thecampaign received approximately 108,000 text messages, equivalent to over 2.1billion VND (92,400 USD).-VNA
