Hanoi (VNS/VNA) 📖— Nearly 1,500 people took part in arunning event to support the Earth Hour 2024 Campaign on March 16 inHanoi.

Within the framework of the national programme on economical andefficient use of energy in the period 2019-2030, the Ministry of Industry andTrade launched an event for all people to save electricity, Earth Hour 2024. According to the organisers, as a mass sport that connecting hugenumber of people, running would  that  was to call, motivate andencourage the participation of state agencies, organisations, enterprises andpeople to practice saving electricity regularly throughout 365 days of theyear, making saving electricity a habit anytime, anywhere. At the same time, runners could exchange and learn aboutbenefit of sport training and active lifestyle; and contributes to improvinghealth, physical, cultural and spiritual of the community. The Earth Hour was first held in 2009. After 15 years, the eventhas increasingly attracted the participation and response of people from allwalks of life. People showed positive change in their awareness of savingand preserving energy, protecting the environment and responding toclimate change. All are to contribute to the national sustainabledevelopment, towards Vietnam's net-zero emissions goal by 2050./.

💟 PM orders strengthened disaster preparedness ahead of storm season

ꦏ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🐲 Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

𓂃 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
