Vietnam's pepper exports saw a 1.9% year-on-year decrease in volume but a significant 48% increase in value thanks to higher prices in the first 10 months of 2024, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).

Vietnam exported 83,067 tonnes of pepper worth 352 million USD in the first four months of this year, down 19.4% in volume but up 10.3% in value, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has reported.

The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) recently coordinated with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnamese Embassy in France to hold a business matching event in Paris to boost pepper trading.

Vietnam is seeking ways to revive the billion-dollar pepper industry which has been struggling against unfavourable weather conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic for over the last several years.

Vietnam is at risk of losing out on major pepper export markets due to increasing logistics costs, according to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA).

Vietnam’s pepper exports have shown signs of recovery, coming in at 45 million USD in September, a year-on-year surge of 22.2 percent.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is working with Nepalese authorities to bring home 58 containers of peppercorn stuck in the country after it recently banned imports of the commodity.

Though Vietnam’s revenue from pepper exports experienced drops in most foreign markets, those to Germany soared during the first seven months of 2019, according to the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority.

Indonesia’s pepper exports in the January-August period rose 16.57 percent year on year to 24,460 tonnes, according to the country’s Agriculture Ministry.

Vietnam earned 1.2 billion USD from the export of nearly 145,500 tonnes of pepper in the first nine months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 31.5 percent in volume and 13.1 percent in value.
