Philippine President arrives in Hanoi for state visit

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on January 29 afternoon, starting their two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.

Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. andhis spouse arrived in Hanoi on January 29 afternoon, starting their two-daystate visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and hisspouse.

They were welcomed at the Noi BaiInternational Airport by Chairman of the President's Office Le Khanh Hai, Chairmanof the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh, Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Do Hung Viet, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Lai ThaiBinh, among others.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by thePhilippine leader since taking office in 2022.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam NewsAgency (VNA) ahead of the visit, Ambassador Binh said that the trip aims toreaffirm the solid strategic partnership, foster political trust at the highestlevel, and create momentum to promote the bilateral cooperation in all fieldsand through all Party, Government, State, National Assembly andpeople-to-people exchange channels.

The visit is also important tostrengthening ASEAN’s solidarity and centrality, especially in the context ofpolitical and security uncertainties in the region and the world, including thesituation in Myanmar and the East Sea.

Through the visit, the strategiccooperation between the two countries is expected to be comprehensivelyconsolidated, for the sake of their peoples, and for peace, stability,cooperation and development in the region and beyond, he said./.
