Philippines: peace talks to resume in July

Hanoi (VNA) –𒐪 The Philippines’ incoming government headed by president Rodrigo Duterte and the National Democratic Front (NDF) have agreed to hold peace talks in July in Norway.

After a two-day meeting in the Scandinavian capital on June 14-15, peace negotiators of the two sides issued a joint statement, announcing that they agreed to a the timetable agenda for official negotiations in the third week of July in Olso. The agenda includes amnesty, a ceasefire as well as a timeline for talks.
The statement stated that the government’s negotiating team will propose the president elect immediately free left-wing prisoners on the humanitarian basis.
Head of the government’s negotiating team Sylevester Bello, who will also serve as Minister of Labour, and head of the NDF’s negotiating team Luis Jalandoni signed the agreement. Duterte, who won in the May 9 presidential election, will take office on June 30.-VNA
