The Philippines has placed 42 airports on heightened alert and was seeking to verify warnings that bombs could be set off on commercial planes, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on October 6.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippines has placed 42 airports on heightenedalert and was seeking to verify warnings that bombs could be set off oncommercial planes, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) saidon October 6.

Itsaid the flights identified were headed to Cebu, Bicol, Davao and Palawan andthe warnings were received by email by air traffic services.

Theislands of Cebu and Palawan are popular destinations for foreign tourists.

Itwas not immediately clear when the threats were issued.

Last month, the Philippine authorities received a bomb threat targeting the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) through an email. After thorough inspection in critical infrastructure of alltransport systems, particularly MRT-3, security personnel did not detect anytrace of any item that might constitute a threat to the travelling public./.
