The Philippines and US on September 29 held an annual naval exercise inthe western Filipino city of Puerto Princesa, involving nearly 5,000soldiers.
The 12-day drills, dubbed as the PhilippineAmphibious Landing Exercise (Phiblex), aim to improve response toregional issues, humanitarian disaster and marine security in theAsia-Pacific.
The soldiers will be trained in firing with live ammunition, amphibious assault and operational command.
Phiblex came as the Philippines is enhancing military exercises with the US and its defence ties with other countries.
According to Singapore’s daily Straits Times, Philippines recently upgraded its defence relationship with Singapore.
