Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime Minister has approved a nationwide prostitution prevention programme for 2016-2020 with a🅰 series of solutions.

It targets that from 2016, central and provincial-level news outlets will update the public about the latest outcomes of the fight against prostitution at least once per month. Up to 75 percent of communes and townships, by 2017, will hold at least one campaign to raise public awareness of the fight and make it a regular activity. The target for 2020 is 100 percent.
Fifty percent of cities and provinces by 2017, and 100 percent by 2020 will incorporate the drive into their own socio-economic development schemes targeting poverty reduction, vocational training for rural workers, and human trafficking combat. The programme will design and launch intervening measures to mitigate the spread of HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence. By 2020, 20 cities and provinces will offer social assistance services to sex workers. To that end, the municipal and provincial People’s Councils must issue relevant resolutions and urge People’s Committees to report enforcement outcomes at their meetings.
Ministries, departments and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee will strengthen supervision and multiply effective preventive models. The drive also looks to raise funding from individuals and organisations at home and abroad and intensify cooperation with neighbouring countries throughout the cause. The press is also responsible for an awareness campaign about the programme.
Statistically, there are more than 11,000 prostitutes on record in the country.-VNA
