Thai Binh completes housing upgrade programme ahead of schedule

Thai Binh (VNA)𓄧 – The northern province of Thai Binh has successfully completed its programme to eliminate dilapidated and makeshift houses for poor and near-poor households, as well as its housing support scheme for revolutionary contributors and martyrs' families three months ahead of schedule.
At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
Over just seven months, Thai Binh rebuilt or repaired homes for 3,007 households, including 2,109 poor and near-poor families and 898 families of revolutionary contributors.
The province offered some of the highest support levels nationwide, with 100 million VND (nearly 4,000 USD) for new constructions and 50 million VND for repairs, with a total budget of 246.65 billion VND (9.69 million USD). Of this, 159.19 billion VND came from the provincial budget, 59.9 billion VND from the Fund for the Poor, and 27.56 billion VND from central government funds.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister’s Certificates of merit were awarded to two units and two individuals for outstanding contributions to the nationwide campaign “Joining hands to eliminate makeshift houses in 2025,” while 64 others received Certificates of merit from the Chairperson of the provincial People's Committee for their efforts during the “300-day action campaign.”/.
As of May 7, 2025, 15 localities across the country have successfully eliminated temporary and dilapidated houses. By May 11, 2025, nearly 209,000 such houses have been removed nationwide, with over 111,000 completed and handed over to families, and more than 98,000 new houses under construction.
According to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, as of March 28, 2025, Vietnam had supported the removal of 168,027 temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide. They include 81,607 completed houses, and 86,420 under construction. To date, localities nationwide have received some 110 million USD, allocated from the program "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", reaching nearly 82% of the target set by the Central Steering Committee for eradication of temporary and dilapidated houses.
