PM approves plan on environmental protection in craft villages

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given the green light to a master plan on environmental protection in craft villages from now until 2030.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given the green light to a masterplan on environmental protection in craft villages from now until 2030. According to the plan, environmental pollutionwill be comprehensively tackled in the 47 most seriously polluted craftvillages nationwide in the next two years. Theaddressing of pollution there will also go hand in hand with a nationalprogramme targeting pollution mitigation and environmental improvementin the 2012-2015.
In the next 5 years, facilities causing environmental pollution are expected to be removed from residential communities. Vietnam has about 3,500 traditional craft villages, 1,000 ofwhich now need financial support to deal with environmental pollution.
The plan is part of the Government’s effort in realisingResolution 35/NQ-CP on urgent issues of environmental protection withseven tasks and solutions. They include enhancingenvironmental protection at industrial parks and clusters, enhancing therequirements in environmental protection in terms of strategies,planning schemes, development plans and projects. Theresolutions also focus on environmental protection in exploitation ofmineral resources, reducing pollution in rural areas and craft villagesand then in big cities and river basins, controlling the import ofwasted materials, preventing degradation of eco-systems and decline ofspecies, and improving effectiveness of State management overenvironmental protection.-VNA

🅺 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
