Bucharest (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse and a high-rankingdelegation of Vietnam arrived at Henri Coanda International Airport at 6:15amon April 14 (local time), beginning an official visit to Romania.

Thevisit is being made at the invitation of Romanian Prime Minister VioricaDancila.

Duringthe visit, PM Phuc is scheduled to hold talks with his Romanian counterpart VioricaDancila, and meet with President Klaus Iohannis, President of the Senate CalinPopescu Tariceanu and President of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea.

TheVietnamese Government leader is also planned to attend and deliver a speech atthe Vietnam-Romania Business Forum and the talk with representatives of Romanianlocalities having cooperative ties with Vietnam.

Afterhis arrival, PM Phuc will visit Prahova where he will have a working sessionwith its governor, and meet with the Vietnamese Embassy’s staff and representativesof the Vietnamese community in the country.

Vietnamand Romania officially set up diplomatic relations in February 1950. The twocountries have enjoyed growing friendship and cooperation. Both sides haveworked together towards a trade revenue target of 500 million USD in the nearfuture, instead of just 200 million USD at present.

Theofficial visit to Romania by PM Phuc and his spouse reiterates Vietnam’sconsistent foreign policy of treasuring deepening the traditional friendshipand cooperation with the European country in a more practical and efficientmanner.

Thisvisit, the first by a Vietnamese PM to Romania since 1977, looks to open upopportunities for Vietnam to gain Romania’s support in the ties with theEuropean Union (EU), especially in pushing for the signing of the EU-VietnamFree Trade Agreement (EVFTA) during the country’s rotating EU Presidency in thefirst half of 2019.

 Besides, the visit also looks to step up thetwo sides’ coordination at international forums and build plans to prepare forthe 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Thetwo sides will seek to boost cooperation across politics, economics,trade-investment, education-training, culture-tourism, agriculture, labour, andlocal partnership during the visit.-VNA
