PM Pham Minh Chinh meets World Economic Forum leaders

Tianjin (VNA) ꦬ– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held separate meetings on June 25 with Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Interim Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), and Borge Brende, WEF President and CEO, on the sidelines of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China.

PM Chinh congratulated Brabeck-Letmathe on his new role and expressed confidence that WEF will remain a prestigious platform for global dialogue, effective public-private connectivity, and multilateral cooperation. He welcomed the theme and priorities of WEF Tianjin 2025, saying they reflect key global and regional economic issues and align closely with Vietnam’s current policy direction. The PM affirmed Vietnam’s appreciation for the WEF’s role and noted with satisfaction the deepening and increasingly substantive partnership between the two sides. Chinh proposed that WEF support the effective operation of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to position it as a leading model within WEF’s global network and a driver of advanced technology adoption in key sectors of the future economy.

He also suggested enhancing connectivity between Vietnam and global enterprises through WEF, attracting high-quality investment, and upgrading the HCM City Economic Forum into an annual WEF Autumn Meeting. Brabeck-Letmathe thanked PM Chinh for attending WEF Tianjin 2025 and praised Vietnam’s active and constructive engagement at WEF meetings over the years. He also commended Vietnam’s flexible and effective economic governance, as well as its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralisation.
He pledged to accelerate the implementation of the 2023 Vietnam-WEF Memorandum of Understanding signed in Tianjin, focusing on practical, result-oriented projects, and to expand Vietnam’s collaboration with other WEF members and partners. In his meeting with WEF President and CEO Borge Brende, PM Chinh received praise for Vietnam’s strong economic performance, particularly GDP growth exceeding 7% in 2024, and its ambitious double-digit growth targets, in contrast to the global trend of economic slowdown. Brende affirmed that Vietnam continues to attract strong interest from the WEF and its business community. He noted that PM Chinh’s dialogues at WEF over the past three consecutive years had left a powerful impression and inspired greater understanding of Vietnam’s policies, encouraging businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country.
He also highlighted Vietnam’s role in hosting the WEF-ASEAN 2018 and expressed hope to jointly organise another major WEF event in Vietnam in the near future, helping further expand Vietnam’s cooperation with WEF members and partners./.

ཧ Vietnam, Ecuador boost ties across trade, technology, and education

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa on June 25 on the sidelines of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin city, China, during which he affirmed Vietnam attaches great importance to its multifaceted cooperation with Ecuador and proposes continued dialogue, negotiation, and signing of cooperation agreements in trade, investment, finance, and agriculture.

The new law abolishes the death penalty for eight criminal offenses: the crime aimed at overthrowing the people’s government; the crime of sabotaging state infrastructure and technical facilities; the crime of producing and trading counterfeit medicines for treatment and prevention; the crime of destroying peace and causing aggressive war; the crime of espionage; that of illegally transporting narcotics; embezzlement; and bribe taking.
