Political consultation held to reinforce Vietnam - Mexico relations
The 6th Vietnam - Mexico political consultation took place via videoconference on July 21 to look into each country’s situation, measures to enhance bilateral relations, and issues of shared concern.

Hanoi (VNA) – The 6th Vietnam - Mexicopolitical consultation took place via videoconference on July 21 to look intoeach country’s situation, measures to enhance bilateral relations, and issuesof shared concern.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign AffairsNguyen Quoc Dung and Mexican Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carmen MorenoToscano informed each other about their respective countries’ response toCOVID-19 and efforts to boost socio-economic development and ensure socialsecurity.
They reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation anddiscussed ways to further strengthen the traditional friendship andcollaboration so as to work towards the establishment of a suitable partnershipbetween Vietnam and Mexico in the time ahead.
They agreed to keep close coordination tosustain the upward trend in their countries’ ties, promote high-level mutualvisits and meetings when possible, effectively maintain cooperation mechanisms,and encourage contact and cooperation in different forms between Vietnamese andMexican ministries and sectors.

Dung expressed his delight at the vigorousdevelopment of economic - trade links, noting that Mexico is currently thethird largest trade partner of Vietnam in Latin America, with their tradehitting 3.68 billion USD in 2020.
For her part, Toscano affirmed Vietnam is one ofthe important political and economic partners of her country in Asia,especially when both are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreementfor Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The two officials agreed to step up negotiationson some agreements so as to complete the legal framework for cooperation insuch spheres as politics - diplomacy, economy - finance, security - defence,plant and animal quarantine, and education - training.
They also exchanged views on some internationaland regional issues of common concern, agreeing to continue coordination andmutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums of whichVietnam and Mexico are members such as the United Nations, the World TradeOrganisation (WTO), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
The two countries will also work to enhance tiesbetween the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the PacificAlliance, they added./.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong visited Jalisco state in the west of the country from November 23 to 25 to boost bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and education, and to attend the opening of an honorary consulate.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
