Hanoi (VNA) ꦏ- Local pop singer Dong Nhi will represent Vietnam at the MTV European Music Awards (MTV EMA) 2016.

The contest is based on votes from the public on the MTV EMA website, //tv.mtvema.com, from September 27 to November 6.

She has already defeated two other Vietnamese rivals, including singer Son Tung M-TP and singer-songwriter Vu Cat Tuong, to represent Vietnam at the awards.

Based on the votes, MTV Vietnam decided to choose the 28-year-old singer, who will have to compete with other talented singers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand in the category of Best Southeast Asia Act.

If Nhi wins the regional vote, she will compete at EMA Rotterdam 2016 in Holland on November 6.

Previously, pop singer Dong Nhi was awarded the Best Asian Artist 2015 at the Annual Mnet Asian Music Awards 2015 (MAMA 2015) organised in Hong Kong last year. She has gained famed in Vietnam with her songs including Pink Girl, I Wanna Be Your Love, and Love Like You.

However, she is best known for her successful music video Trach Ai Bay gio (Who to Reproach). She has also spent time training the country’s younger pop singers.

MTV EMA was established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular songs and singers in Europe. After 20 years, EMA spreads its influence to Asia to honour Asian talents.

Originally an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. The host city changes annually. It has been hosted four times in the United Kingdom and five times in Germany.
