Popular Vietnamese pianist to perform in Hanoi

Renowned Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang, who has won many international piano competitions, will perform as an invited artist at piano series No.3 Évolution that will be held at Hanoi Opera House on October 3.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Renowned Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang, whohas won many international piano competitions, will perform as an invitedartist at piano series No.3 Évolution that will be held at HanoiOpera House on October 3.

The concert follows the success of previous cathedral concert and piano seriesthat were held earlier this year by Maestoso Music Development JointStock Company.

The highlight of the concert is the first performance of FiveBagatelles by Carl Vine, an Australian composer of contemporaryclassical music, in Vietnam by the Vietnamese artist.

Quang will also take the audience on the musical journey from the end of the18th century to the end of the 20th century via classical worksof Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Ravel and Liszt.

“I feel very honoured to be part of the Évolution and, via theconcert, I hope to share and contribute a small part to the Vietnamesecommunity – all proceeds will be donated to Cap La Yeu Thuong – aprogramme launched by VTV24 Channel to help disadvantaged Vietnamese childrenattend school,” Quang shared on his Facebook.

Quang is the son of Luu Quang Minh, a lecturer at the Vietnam National Academyof Music. Quang studied at the academy from 1997 to 2007 under the guidance ofProf Tran Thu Ha, former rector of the academy.

Between 2008 and 2012, Quang studied atthe Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA),in Australia under the guidance of Kyung Hee Lee. In 2013-2015, hepursued his master’s degree at the University of Montreal, Canada, under theguidance of artist Dang Thai Son. He is now the youngest lecturer ofAMPA, Sydney, Australia.

Quang has won many prestigious international musical awards including thespecial prize at Piano International Asia F. Chopin in 2006, thefirst prize at the Lev Vlassenko piano competition in Australia in2011 and second place at the Euregio Piano Awards in Germany in 2015. Mostrecently, he received his 14th international prize – the secondprize at the Oleggio International Piano Competition heldin Italy from May 3-6.
