Hanoi (VNA) – Scientists have discovered pre-historic drawings dated 3,000 years ago in an ancient cave in the north centralprovince of Nghe An.
During an archaeological verification trip in February in Quy Chau district, a delegation of the VietnamInstitute of Archaeology found the pre-historic murals in Tham Chang cave in Thuan Chuancommune.
The cave was discovered by the institute in 2015, said Assoc. Prof., Dr TrinhNang Chung, head of the archaeological team, adding that based on stone tools found inside,the cave is believed to form during the Old Stone Age.
This is not the first time that ancient art has beendiscovered in caves in Nghe An province.
In the 1940s, French archaeologists found drawings in a cave inChau Phong commune, about 15km south of Quy Chau town. In addition, human-figuredrock carvings were recently detected in a cave in Anh Son district’s Hoa Son commune.
The discoveries in Nghe An caves, along with art productsfound in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Ha Giang and Quang Binh, indicate cave artswere practiced by people in Vietnam in the prehistoric time.
Further research on this kind of ancient art is needed.
Also during the trip, archaeologists discovered a new relicsite of Hoa Binh Culture dated nearly 10,000 years ago in the Stone Age, whichis Tham Moi cave in Quy Chau district. Stone working tools found in the caveshow fundamental traits of the art of Hoa Binh Culture.

Nearly 30 stone-age archaeological relics and thousands of precious artifacts have been unearthed in Tuyen Quang, helping affirm that the northern mountainous province is one of the residential areas of primitive humans.
Archaeologists have discovered findings with cultural values of the prehistoric period in Vietnam through an urgent archaeological excavation of Tuan Quan relic site in northern Yen Bai province, which confirms that the site is a particularly rare and precious relic belonging to the late Stone Age and feudal periods.
Experts from the museum of northern Yen Bai province have found a cultural relic site belonging to the Late Stone Age (pre-Hoa Binh Culture period) in Ngoi Sen village, Van Tien commune of Yen Bai city.
More than 6,300 artifacts, have been found in excavations at the archaeological site Ben Mau A in Van Yen district, the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, since September 2000, according to the provincial Museum.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
