President meets Vietnamese community, foreign friends in Italy

Rome (VNA) – State President Vo VanThuong on July 25 (local time) met in Rome withthe staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy and representatives of theVietnamese businesses and community there, as part of his State visitto the European country.
Foreign experts, researchers, members offriendship associations, and Italian friends also joined the meeting.
Ambassador Duong Hai Hung said that the 5,000-strong Vietnamesecommunity in Italy keeps close connectionsin life, has stable legal status, and is highly valued by the hostcountry. Recently, a union of presidents of Vietnamese people's associations inItaly has been established to promote linkage among the Vietnamese associations.
President Thuong emphasised that over thepast half a century, the Vietnam-Italy relationship has continuously developedin all aspects.
He said he belꦑieves that this visit willcreate a new impetus, 🅰intensify political trust, and bring the two countries'relations to a new and more effective level for the development of eachcountry.

Briefing the overseas Vietnamese on Vietnam’s current situation and its achievements over the past time, thePresident noted the important contributions by the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Italy.
On behalf of the Party and the State, Thuong thanked Italian friends for their enthusiastic support forVietnam over the past years.
The President emphasised that the Party andState always consider overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of thecountry.
He expressed his hope that overseas Vietnamese in Italy will maintain the traditional cultural identity of the Vietnamese people, pass the Vietnamese language to the next generations, and always turn their hearts and minds to thehomeland./🌼.
On the occasion of President Vo Van Thuong's State visit to Italy this month at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro granted Vietnam News Agency an interview ahead of the visit, expecting that it will contribute to update the political relations between the two countries and orient their cooperation in all sectors.
Italy and Vietnam, sharing a sustainable relationship, see great potential to further bolster their partnership extensively and intensively, Andrea Fais, Editor-in-Chief of Scenari Internazionali (international scenarios) magazine told Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondents in Rome on the occasion of President Vo Van Thuong’s State visit to Italy.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
