Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to Japan fromMay 29 to June 2 affirms and consolidates the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategicpartnership for peace and prosperity in the Asia, Japan Times, the country’slargest and oldest English-language daily newspaper, wrote on May 28.
President Quang’s visit is especially significant to the sound friendshipbetween the two nations, which have reached mutual political trust, the articlewrote, given that political ties have been developed and strengthen in the past45 years by regular visits and meetings of their senior leaders atinternational and regional forums.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe chose Vietnam for his first overseas trip aftertaking office in January 2013. He was also the first leader of the G7 nations toinvite Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to attend the expanded G7Summit, it said.
Japan and Vietnam always support each other at multilateral forums like the UN,ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, and UN Human Rights Council. Vietnam, with its locationclose to the East Sea and in the economic corridor connecting the Pacific andIndian Ocean, plays a very important role in Japan’s “Free and OpenIndo-Pacific” strategy.
Particularly, in the context that the East Sea is being militarised, seriouslythreatening peace and stability in the region, Vietnam and Japan should furtherboost bilateral cooperation, the article suggested.
Last year, Japan became the biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with totalinvestment of 9.11 billion USD, or 25 percent of the nation’s total foreigndirect investment inflow. The country was also the largest ODA provider forVietnam, accounting 30 percent of the total ODA supplied by foreign nations.
Earlier, many Japanese press agencies like NHK, Nikkei, Nikkei Asian Review,Kyodo and JIJI also stressed the importance of President Quang’s visit ahead ofhis trip to the East Asian country.
Vietnam wants to deepen the strategic relations with Japan in all sectors, theyquoted President Quang as saying. Vietnam has shared the same stance with Japanon solving the East Sea issue through peaceful measures and based oninternational law to ensure freedom of navigation in the waters.
In addition, the Japanese media also highlighted Vietnam’s and Japan’s effortsto speed up the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for theTrans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Chile in March.-VNA

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
