Da Nang (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quangon November 7 inspected flood recovery efforts in the central city of Da Nangand visited some of the worst-affected residents.

He had high praise of clean-up and post-storm repair work done by authoritiesof the city that is hosting the ongoing Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) 2017 Leaders’ Week.

The President noted that APEC 2017 Leaders’ Week was the most importantinternational event of the year for the country in general and Da Nang city inparticular.

It was an opportunity to boost the image of the country and the city amonginternational visitors, he said.

He also lauded the city’s residents for actively coping with typhoon Damrey andtaking measures to handle its consequences.

At present, the cleaning of streets, urban renovations, replacement and repair ofdamaged properties had been completed, he was told.

Visiting households in Hoa Vang district’s Hoa Khuong commune, the President stressedthat leaders of the Party, the State as well as people through the countrycared for and shared the difficulties and hardship of people in the central andCentral Highlands regions that were severely hit by typhoon Damrey.

The National Committee for Search and Rescue reported that storm Damrey thathit Vietnam on November 4 and following downpours and floods had claimed 89lives and left 18 missing and 174 other injured in central and CentralHighlands localities as of November 7 night.-VNA
