Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuclaunched the Vietnam health programme at a teleconference participated by all 63provinces and cities nationwide on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors’ Day –February 27.
The programme was approved by Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc under Decision No 109/QD-TTg dated September 2, 2018. It sets out tasksand solutions to achieve 28 targets in 11 prioritised health areas, includingnutrition, physical training, child healthcare, smoking-alcohol impactprevention, environmental sanitation, and food safety.
Speaking at the event, Phuc praised public healthcaresector’s continuous progress and pointed to its shortcomings.
The Government leader noted that despite high average lifeexpectancy, Vietnamese people generally have to live with diseases for about 10years in their life, meaning a decline in life quality. Their physical staturealso improves little over the past years, he added.
Vietnamese average height is 164.5 cm for males and 153 cmfor females and only increases by 3 cm after 25 years.
The PM called for intensified awareness campaigns onhealthcare, particularly the need for a healthy lifestyle, which includesregular exercises, no smoking, limited alcohol drinking, and regular health check-ups.
Following the launch were a series of activities takingplace nationwide, such as health check-ups, health consultancy, mass physicalexercise, and cycling for health.-VNA
