Programme raises students’ awareness of protecting water resources

Quang Nam (VNA) – Japan’s water education programme “Mizuiku – I loveclean water” kicked off in the central province of Quang Nam on March 22 inresponse to World Water Day.
Theprogramme, first implemented in Vietnam in 2015, focuses on practical, outdooractivities to educate children on the role of water on the planet and to raisetheir awareness on the importance of water resources and water hygiene in theirdaily lives.
Alongwith Quang Nam, this year’s programme will be carried out in Hanoi, northern HaGiang, Lang Son and Bac Ninh provinces, and the Mekong Delta province of BenTre.
Tentraining courses for over 300 teachers and volunteers are scheduled to beorganised, while nearly 90 extracurricular classes to be held to educatestudents on the environment.
Aspart of the programme, 15 clean water facilities will be built and toilets ofsome schools will be upgraded.
Secretaryof the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Nguyen Ngoc Luongsaid that the programme has helped raise children’s awareness about theimportance of water resources, so they can join in protecting and using watereconomically and effectively.
