QuangBinh (VNA) - The People's Committee of the central province of QuangBinh has issued directives to enhance the management and conservation of wildand migratory bird populations, with the aim of minimising poaching, trafficking, and consumption activities in the locality.

Heads ofrelevant departments, sectors, agencies, and organisations, and chairpersons ofthe People’s Committees of Dong Hoi city, and districts and towns have been demandedto instruct their civil servants and employees tostrictly adhere to and disseminate legal regulations regarding biodiversity andwild bird conservation.

The provincial Department ofAgriculture and Rural Development has been requested to collaborate with the Departmentsof Natural Resources and Environment, and Industry and Trade, the CustomsOffice, the Border Guard Command, and the police of the province to regularlyinspect and supervise restaurants, businesses, and markets, and strictly handleany activities involving the poaching, trapping, slaughtering,transporting, trading, processing, or keeping of wild and migratory birds.

Relevant authorities willbe responsible for monitoring and implementing measures to prevent diseases originatingfrom wild and migratory birds.

Local authorities haveconducted nearly 450 inspections, destroyed numerous nets and devicesused for bird trapping, and released 127 live decoy birds back into theirnatural habitat.

However, the apprehension andprosecution of those involved in the evil in the locality have encountered significantdifficulties and limitations.

Quang Binh is one of the regionsrecognised for its high biodiversity. Notably, the Phong Nha - Ke Bang NationalPark - a UNESCO World Natural Heritage, and the Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc TrongNature Reserve stand out as remarkable examples of this biodiversity. Theseareas, in particular, are known for their exceptionally rich diversity of birdspecies.

𝐆 As hometo 303 bird species, including11 listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book and another 11 in the IUCN RedList of Threatened Species, the Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park was identified as two of more than 60 important bird zones in Vietnam by BirdLifeInternational in 2005./.
