Quang Nam launches biodiversity exhibition, wildlife campaign

Quang Nam (VNA) - An exhibition onbiodiversity and a meeting in response to a campaign on acting for wildlife openedin the central province of Quang Nam on March 5.

The event was co-hosted by the provincial People’sCommittee, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Vietnam and theGreenViet Centre.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman ofthe provincial People's Committee Le Tri Thanh affirmed that Quang Nam aims tobe a pioneer in sustainable development, focusing on green, circular andbalanced growth and achieving a harmonious balance between economic developmentand environment protection.

In the future, the province hopes to receivecooperation, both at home and abroad, to strengthen wildlife conservation efforts, hesaid.

The six-day exhibition showcases 64 informationboards and stories, along with 86 photos depicting conservation and restorationmodels nationwide, other 153 photos and 61 posters highlighting the local forests,plains and coastal areas.

This event marks the beginning of the NationalBiodiversity Restoration Year - Quang Nam 2024, introducing and promoting thevalues of biodiversity resources, the richness of rare and endemic flora andfauna, and the distinctive gifts of nature, contributing to mitigating theglobal climate change.

Vietnam is recognised as one of the 16countries with the highest biodiversity globally, boasting around 51,400species. However, it is currently facing a growing trend of biodiversitydecline.

♍ A total of over 38 million USD in non-refundableaid have been so far allocated to 21 nature reserves in Vietnam, including fivenational parks, nature reserves and protective forests in Quang Nam./.

☂ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🌳 Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

💦 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
