Authorities of the central province of Quang Ngai had a working session on integrated educational for children with disabilities with a delegation from the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) organisation on September 21.

Representatives from the CBM delegation said the visit, the organisation’s second to the province, aims to study and collect information in order to build a suitable integrated educational model for disabled children in the locality.

They expressed wishes to cooperate with the province’s Pham Van Dong University in training staff for the project.

The CBM also pledged to support the province in improving the living standards of people with disabilities via cooperation with local partners.

At the working session, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Quang Thich suggested the CBM to help with material facilities for the training of local teachers in integrated education models.

🐠 According to latest statistics, Quang Ngai is now home to 5,459 disabled children aging from 0 to 16; of whom only 1,168 or 21.4 percent go to school.

A report of the provincial Education and Training Department said integrated education, with disabled children join their normal peers at school, only started in the province in 2002.  Established in 1908, the international charity organisation CBM has implemented projects in Vietnam via the National Eye Hospital and a number of provincial-level partners since 1982.-VNA
