Quang Ninh: flower festival to take place earlier than scheduled
The People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province’s Uong Bi city on March 15 announced to change the time for the 2018 Cherry blossom – Yen Tu yellow ochna flower festival.
Quang Ninh (VNA) – The People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province’sUong Bi city on March 15 announced to change the time for the 2018 Cherryblossom – Yen Tu yellow ochna flower festival.
Specifically, the event, part of the National Tourism Year2018 hosted by Quang Ninh, will be held from March 22-26 instead of March 24-28as announced earlier.
Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Pham Tuan Datsaid that the adjustment is to suit the working schedule of the Japanese guestdelegation.
Dat added the place and activities of the festival willremain unchanged.
This year, the event will take place at the Yen Tu relicsite of Uong Bi city - the land of founding Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen – instead of HaLong city as the three previous versions.
A strings of activities will be organised at the festival,including a show on traditional and modern clothing of Vietnam and Japan, artperformances, a display of 50 cherry blossoms trees, 5,000 bonsai trees andmore than 100 Yen Tu yellow ochna flower trees and a trade fair introducinglocal farm produce.
The yellow ochna flower is indigenous to the area near YenTu Mountain. Legend has it that the species was grown in the area by King TranNhan Tong (1258-1308), the third King of the Tran Dynasty.
The King abdicated when he was 35 and spent the rest of hislife on Yen Tu Mountain practicing and propagating Buddhism. He founded thefirst Vietnamese School of Buddhism called “Thien Tong” or Truc Lam Yen Tu Zenon the 1,068m-high Yen Tu Mountain.
The Cherry blossom – Yen Tu ochna flower festival has drewthe participation of many Vietnamese and Japanese businesses and visitors overthe years. It promotes the images of Yen Tu relic site and the yellow ochnaflower, along with introducing cherry blossoms and Japanese culture toattendees.
Through the festival, Quang Ninh aims to promote its imageand strengths in economy, culture and tourism to Japanese people, thusenhancing cooperation and trade between businesses and ties between theprovince and Japan’s localities and agencies.-VNA
The Yen Tu Spring Festival kicked off on February 25 or the 10th day of the Lunar New Year, in Uong Bi city, the northern province of Quang Ninh, starting the National Tourism Year hosted by the locality.

The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.

This marks the first time Vietnam has hosted a continental-level Muay event which will feature competitions across 28 weight categories in combat and eight performance categories.
Coming to the Vietnamese booth, visitors had the chance to take part in a bamboo dance, a workshop on painting woven bamboo or rattan, or quizzes about Vietnam.
