Quang Tri signs rubber plantation contract with Laos

Quang Tri Rubber Company under the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) has signed a land leasing contract with the Lao Government for a rubber plantation and a rubber processing plant in Laos’ southern province of Salavan.

Vientiane (VNA) –
Quang TriRubber Company under the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) has signed a land leasing contractwith the Lao Government for a rubber plantation and a rubber processing plantin Laos’ southern province of Salavan.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Vientianeon November 29, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Khamlien Phonsenasaid the project will help develop the economy in Salavan and generate jobs forlocal people and eliminate poverty.

The signing has a significant meaning in celebration of Laos-VietnamYear of Friendship and Solidarity 2017, he said.

He proposed Quang Tri Rubber Company prioritise using local workerswhile abiding by the host country’s legal regulations on environmentalprotection to realise the Lao Government’s plan to develop a green andsustainable economy.

The Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment pledged to work with Salavanauthorities and ministries to create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese companyto run the project, he added.

Director General of Quang Tri Rubber Company Van Luu promised to ensurethe progress of the project, create jobs for local residents and to strictlyfollow the law on environmental protection.

The project will be carried out on 500 hectares with total investment ofnearly 10 million USD. The land lease lasts 30 years, though it could beextended. Once operational, the project is expected to create jobs for nearly600 Lao workers.-VNA
