The North Power Corporation under the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said the record torrential rain and floods have affected the power supply to 27 cities and provinces nationwide.
This has left more than 12,000 people without electricity for many days.
In the northern coastal Quang Ninh province, as many as 39 grid substations have been installed to supply power to the province.
However, 5,210 customers in flood-hit areas such as Minh Chau, Thang Loi and Ban Sen communes in Van Don district, part of Cam Pha city, Luong Mong and Dap Thanh in Ba Che district, as well as Ky Thuong commune in Hoanh Bo district are still facing a shortage of power due to heavy rain and floods.
In the northern mountainous Son La province, three grid substations in Phu Yen, Bac Yen and Muong La districts have developed technical problems, forcing the corporation to temporarily cut the power supply to 382 customers.
In the northern mountainous Lang Son province, 520 customers in Huu Lung, Loc Binh and Chi Lang districts are facing the same problems.
In the northern mountainous Dien Bien province, floods causing submergence of areas and landslides have disrupted power supply to 4,250 customers.
Prolonged rain in the northern Bac Giang province has affected 40 substations, leaving 6,000 customers in 26 communes in the province in the dark.
The North Power Corporation said it has mobilised workers to closely monitor the level of rainfall and floods in these areas and that it would resume the supply of power to these areas as soon as possible.
The rainfall was expected to subside in the country's northwest and northeast regions, Hanoi and several provinces in the central region from August 5. The record torrential rain and floods began last month, killing 27 people and sweeping away hundreds of houses and crops.-VNA
